a story of life | annual documentary

2021 - age 12
Twelve; it’s a revered age to photograph for one is on the cusp of teenage angst while still catching a fleeting sense of late childhood. And as the second year into the pandemic began to loosen somewhat, it was still early times. Between schedules, I only got to spend a few times this year (which is becoming more/more of a challenge) but these do illuminate the beauty blossoming.

2020 - age 11 (Due to the pandemic, there was only one opportunity late in the year to photograph…)

2019 - age 10

2018 - age 9 (the year we were only able to see each other twice)

2017 - age 8

2016 - age 7

2015 - age 6

age 5

2013 - age 4

2012 - age 3

2011 - age 2

The seeds for this project originated after seeing "The Brown Sisters" by Nicholas Nixon which presented over three decades of portraits and offers insight into the power and presence of photographs taken over time. Shortly after, I was led to this family  - two Mom's and their curious, precocious two year old. Though the project began with a once a year commitment, it's since shifted to include other times throughout the year as our relationship has grown into a friendship of life and the end of life and all things in between.
